There is a scene in Chapter 12 of Jalaleddin where the Kurds are playing the Janiman melody with their zurnas (a Eurasian wind instrument) around a bonfire. Janiman is an Armenian folksong, so it is telling that the Kurds are playing it. In contrast to the playful lyrics (which do not appear in the book), the melody is played in a place called the bloody canyon. Here are two versions of the song on YouTube (both without the zurnas).
